This carrier looks awesome. I bet that after a while carrying a baby can get tiresome. My wife and I are talking about starting to try to have a baby. I bet that she will buy one of these before she gets pregnant. I love the video that you attached as well. Looks super easy to use.

Hey Irene,

I would go with whatever your budget allows. Both are great. The model reviewed here is the "standard". A close friend of mine has the "performance" and swears by it as well. It really is just a matter of budget...Thanks for stopping by!

Christina, You're right about the fact that I need to expect some negative comments when I allow folks to leave them but...this particular woman left several comments on several posts, each getting increasingly opinionated and some are downright nasty. I am all for "to each his/her own" and when it comes to parenting we need to agree to disagree on certain topics. To leave your opinion or comment on a particular subject is one thing, to personally attack someone is another thing entirely.

On another more positive note, I too am not crazy about the adjustment aspect of the Ergo. But, once the adjustments are made I found it to be super comfortable. What we did is use a Sleepy Baby Wrap for the first few months when there was more "on and off" action happening and then as our kids grew older and were in the carrier for extended periods of time, we switched to the Ergo. It really is a matter of personal preference and body type. Thanks for stopping by and contributing to the conversation.

I find this really comfortable. My wife uses a sling but I think they take too long to set up. This is so much more easier. My wife is due again soon - can you get doubles?!

I love the Ergo too :) My husband is also 6'5 and I purchased it because it's something we can both wear. However, I do find the adjustments a pain in my rear. I have a couple yards of brown linen that I'm going to sew into a Mei Tai carrier because I believe the style (which is similar to how the Ergo functions) would be comfortable and easier for me then constantly adjusting between my husband and myself.

I do want to say (kindly) that you welcomed comments and the previous lady, though opinionated, meant no harm and seemed very much like she was trying to be friendly. You cannot welcome comments on the internet without being prepared to have some that you may not like. There will be assumptions in responses to a blog post. You might want to try just smiling, thanking her for her suggestions, congratulating her on finding the carrier for her and explaining to her what you just said. That might be an easier way to get to "the more the better" ;)

"Just yet'? I've had this carrier for over 5 years and used for two kids. And it is still as good as new and ready to be handed off to any of my friends expecting a new baby. I did try a tradtional Mei Tai and being very long waisted, it didn't sit right on my hips, but rather wrapped around my belly making it very uncomfortable.

I found my Ergo long before it was "popular". Stop making so many assumptions, please.

I have also used every kind of carrier and I really dislike the ERGO. I think that many times people like it because its a popular well known product so they actually find out about it and what they like is baby-wearing versus the ERGO.

You mentioned you had a hip-style Mei Tai, but have you ever used a regular Mei Tai? I know everyone has their favorites, but every mom that I know who baby-wears (7??) uses a Mei Tai and we all reached that conclusion on our own before we met up together!

Whether you use one with a traditional tie or a clasp (I prefer the clasp so there is no long strands on the ground)--its super simple and can be used from preemie to 35 pounds (or 45 depending on the style). I would strongly encourage you to try one. I think you will find that the support as well as putting the baby/toddler in and out of the carrier is simplified while the leg holes in the Ergo make it more complex. They come in masculine colors (mine is black) and it looks just fine on the guys as well.

I was really disappointed in the Ergo and felt that the weight wasn't nearly as centered as a Mei Tai. I'm super glad you are baby-wearing and keep it up--The ERGO might just be what works for you but I would say that you need to try a front/back carry in a Mei Tai before you decide on your favorite just yet :)
