Does it pay to Recycle?

by Jess Ray

Recycling is the reprocessing of the old materials into new materials. The main purpose of recycling is to prevent the constant waste of all the potentially used materials.

But one of the primary benefits that come along with the recycling is the reduction in the usage of all the fresh and raw materials thus preserving natural resources. This in turn reduces the use of our most precious resource, energy.

New products are created with the use of raw materials and large volumes of natural energy. By recycling, these natural resources will be preserved and our water and air pollution will be reduced. This can be achieved by reducing the constant need for traditional waste disposal.

Space will be saved as well because the recycling process will provide the proper usage of all the waste products and in turn saving precious space for the landfills.

Recycling is extremely important because problems like these tend to become a viscous cycle. As landfills reach their maximum capacity, we are left with no solution other then to find more space to bury our waste. This is not a solution, merely a symptom of a much bigger problem.

This process is not only important to us humans but also to our natural environment. Time is likely to run short when it comes to preserving the natural resources of our beloved planet.

We all must do our part in the recycling market in order for the natural resources to be preserved.

But the recycling market is down. For instance, 1 ton of paper that used to be worth $125, now it costs $8. Recycling plans are needed in order for the existing landfills to last for a longer period of time. Those in the refuse business are reluctant to recycle because this process is not likely to make extra money and takes extra effort and equipment.

However, we all must understand that our land fills are filling up and our natural resources are dwindling. You can raise your own resources and wealth by recycling the things that you do not need anymore. To take it one step further, rather than recycle later why not reduce what you consume?

The American society is one of abundance and for that we are blessed, but it is not to be abused or taken for granted. Just because “it” is there does not mean you should buy it, at least not in “that” form. Shop in consignment stores, buy less processed and pre-packaged food and simply think about what it means to throw something in the trash. Where is it going to end up? Most likely in a landfill.

The recycling process can make complete sense because it is worthwhile to every individual. By making your choice to try and recycle now, you will become pro-active towards saving your own planet. You will be safeguarding your children‚ as green inheritance. You need to make an effort in order to build a greener and cleaner environment.
